By Maxine Christensen
Queen Silva Christensen, Charlotte Krogh, Lorraine Hoegh, Mary Ann Huegerich, Beverly Juelsgaard, Geri Kommes, Cleo Wiskus, Evelyn Nelson, Darlene Hansen, Erma Nelson and Elaine Rasmussen were the 11 Exira Red Hat Firecrackers enjoying an Audubon Red Hat Chicks Hawaiian Party held at the GreenBrier Golf Course south of Audubon, on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Serving as hosts were the Red Hat Chicks and other Red Hats organizations attending were another Audubon group, Denison, Elk Horn, Atlantic, Carroll, Manning, and Manilla. There was a large crowd, and lots of door prizes given.
The Exira Red Hat Firecrackers who received door prizes were Cleo Wiskus who received greeting cards; Erma Nelson who received a flower pot, and Charlotte Krogh who received a sectioned tray.
Twila Hoffman of Atlantic served as MC and read a poem. Others giving readings were Gert Madsen, Dorothy Kirchhoff, and Bev England.
Mary Potter and her companion Susie Q from Guthrie Center provided the entertainment. After much conversation between Mary and Susie Q, she invited two women and three men from the audience to help her in the Hawaiian Hula dance. Those who entertained were Beverly Juelsgaard, Linda Marek, Mayor Sam Kauffman, Grover Davis, and Willie Madsen. All of the participants wore grass skirts and leis and learned the proper way to hula. Each one got a trophy of a palm tree and were allowed to keep the grass skirts.
Lunch consisted of chicken salad on a croissant bun, fruit cup, rainbow sherbert, coffee, tea and mints.
