Bartholomew appointed School Resource Officer
By Carlleen Bell

Ben “Bart” Bartholomew, (pictured) a deputy for the Cass County sheriff’s office, has been named as a full time school resource officer for the Atlantic, CAM, and Griswold school districts.
At this week’s Atlantic school board meeting, Bartholomew introduced himself to the board and outlined his goals and responsibilities as a school resource officer. He will serve as a law enforcement officer, teacher, and counselor in the schools, but his primary objective is to build relationships with students and provide them another avenue of communication with school authorities.
While Bartholomew will try to divide his time equally among the three districts, he does intend to spend more time in the middle and high schools than in the elementary buildings. The most disciplinary and social problems come from the middle school level, he says, and he anticipates needing to spend the most time in those buildings getting to know the students.
Bartholomew, who comes to the Cass County Sheriff’s department from a military background, was a part time resource officer in 2007 and is now on full time appointment.
